Contrasting his fond descriptions of home, the war-torn landscape conveys his depression â€Å"The air thumped and shuddered and occasional flashes revealed the thickets of barbed wire they had fallen among. The air was tormented.† (FAP, Ch 13, pg. 88) allowing for the audience to understand how enlisting in the war has affected him. In conclusion, the texts ‘FAP’ and ‘BH60’ were able effectively explore the idea of travel within the context of war being life changing through the use of symbolism, setting and the change in narrative tone. The two texts similarly explore the idea of death with the use of symbolism and setting, although FAP uses the language of death and change in narration to further explore the†¦show more content†¦131). By presenting the audience with the point of view of Miss Harcourt, their perspective on war is influenced, allowing them to comprehend how the war affected not only the lives of the soldiers, but also their friends and family back home. As well as change of narrative voice, ‘FAP’ features a change in tone from Jim’s point of view after his death as it becomes free â€Å"He drifted with them. He watched them tease out, sending long fingers into the blue† (FAP, Ch 17, pg. 118) with imagery of flying and as he imagines himself as a bird â€Å"as if a wounded bird threw faint colours from its wings as its blood beat feebly into the earth.† (FAP, Ch 17, pg. 119). The audiences’ perspective on war is changed through the narrative tone and v oice of the novel, allowing the audience to understand how life changing war is and the extremities it can lead to such as death shown in ‘FAP’. In summary, by exploring the devices of symbolism, setting, narration change and language the two texts are able to successfully explore how life changing war is and the severe consequences such as
